NATIOBAL CHILDREN'S MONTH
The 33rd National Children’s Month celebration in the Philippines carries the powerful theme: “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!” This theme underscores the growing concern over Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM). In today’s digital age, children are more exposed to online risks, making this advocacy not only timely but necessary. The government, through agencies like the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Education (DepEd), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), has intensified campaigns to protect children from these threats.
One of the most commendable actions is the nationwide awareness drive. Local governments and schools have been conducting seminars on cyber safety, equipping barangay councils and children’s associations with knowledge to identify online risks and report exploitation. These initiatives reflect the government’s recognition that protecting children requires both policy enforcement and grassroots education. By empowering communities, the government ensures that protection is not only centralized but also felt at the household level.
Moreover, the government’s commitment to children’s dignity and rights is evident in its alignment with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). National Children’s Month is celebrated annually to remind Filipinos of their duty to uphold children’s welfare. This year’s focus on ending OSAEC and CSAEM shows that the government is adapting to modern challenges, particularly those brought by technology. However, while these programs are promising, the fight against exploitation requires sustained funding, stronger law enforcement, and collaboration with private sectors and NGOs.
In conclusion, the 2025 celebration is more than symbolic—it is a call to action. The government has made strides in protecting children’s safety, dignity, and rights, but the responsibility also lies with parents, educators, and society at large. Ending OSAEC and CSAEM is not just about laws; it is about building a culture where every child grows up free from fear and exploitation.
